Coaxial cable (Coaxial cable) is a kind of wire and signal transmission line, generally made of four layers of material: the innermost is a conductive copper wire, the outside of the wire is surrounded by a layer of plastic (for insulators, dielectrics), and a thin layer of mesh conductor (usually copper or alloy) outside the insulator, and then the outer layer of insulation material as the outer skin of the conductor.
Coaxial cables can be used for the transmission of analog and digital signals and are suitable for a wide variety of applications, the most important of which are television transmission, long-distance telephone transmission, short-distance connections between computer systems and local area networks. Coaxial cable has developed rapidly as a means of spreading television signals to thousands of households, which is cable television.
A cable TV system can carry dozens or even hundreds of TV channels, and its transmission range can reach tens of kilometers. Coaxial cables have long been an important part of long-distance telephone networks. Today, it faces increasing competition from fiber optics, terrestrial microwaves and satellites.
Different from ordinary cables
1. Different composition materials:
The constituent material of coaxial cable is a copper wire conductor isolated by an insulating material.
The composition material of ordinary cables is several wires or groups of wires.
2. Different classifications:
Coaxial cables are divided into baseband coaxial cables and broadband coaxial cables.
Ordinary cables are divided into DC cables and AC cables.
3. Different types:
Coaxial cables are divided into thin cable RG-58 and thick cable RG-11.
Ordinary cables are divided into flame-retardant rubber cables, nuclear-grade cables, bare wires and bare conductor products, power cables, communication cables and optical fibers, electromagnetic wires (winding wires), and flexible fireproof cables.
